New York, NY (July 8, 2010) GF55 Partners, an architecture and interior design firm based in New York City, has completed the design and construction drawings for Elliott Chelsea, the largest new affordable housing development in Chelsea on the north-west corner of 25th Street and 9th Avenue. Ground breaking is scheduled for early this month.
The 22 story, 165,000 SF Elliott-Chelsea Building includes 168 apartments, as well as retail space on ground level.
Shay Alster, AIA, the Partner-in-Charge at GF55 says: “As this is one of the largest and tallest affordable housing development in Chelsea in recent years, we recognized that Elliott Chelsea will stand out, so we have designed it with an elegant clean look – yes, although it may look like a market rate condo development, this is 100% affordable.”
The architects at GF55 have dressed up the building with two colors brick, metal panels, pre-cast stone and large open corner glass windows, creating an elegant, neat design. Elliott Chelsea will include some of the latest green systems.
The American Institute of Architects recently awarded GF55 Partners the 2010 Andrew J. Thomas “Pioneer in Housing” Award. This honor is awarded annually to architects who have made significant contributions in pioneering housing in New York City.
